Is there a Right Time to Sell your House
Maryland House Buyers: The fact of the matter is that historically, spring is the best time to buy and sell houses. It is by far the most common time when people are prone to moving. Keeping in mind school and college semesters, parents of children and young adults prefer to move during spring and hence there is a hike in buying and selling of houses at this time.
However, market conditions also have a lot to do with the sale of a house, historical data notwithstanding. In some cases, it may actually be better to wait the heavy selling season as there are sure to be lots of competitors and many may be willing to reduce their asking price, jeopardizing your chances of selling at a profit. If you put your house on the market and it remains unsold, a certain stigma gets attached to it and it is likely to remain unsold for a long time to come. In such a case, it may actually be better to wait for fall, or even winter. This way, you will have less competition to contend with and your chances of selling your house for a profit will increase considerably.
So, if you want to sell quickly, spring and summer are the best times to do so, whereas if you are looking at selling your house for a profit, fall, or even winter suit your needs better. However, there is nothing to be done if your intention to sell your house is driven by another need altogether. For instance, if you and your family are moving out of the country or if the owner has passed away and his estate has to be divided amongst those who survive him, there is unfortunately no right time for you to sell the house.
